In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, a new generation of juju artists expanded the style's boundaries—adding more Western and pan-African influences. Segun Adewale and Sir Shina Peters became global stars when, as collaborators and solo artists, they added Afrobeat, jazz and reggae sounds into the mix, eventually incorporating drum machines and synths to move juju towards the contemporary pop arena.
