EDITORS’ NOTES

Known to Italian music fans as “the prince of the singer/songwriters,” Francesco De Gregori is blessed with Bob Dylan's way with words, and something of his tumbling vocal delivery, too. While he's comfortable playing with tight Latin rhythms or even a West Indian lilt from time to time, his songs often tend to be loosely woven, immaculately scuffed affairs—rolling folk rock with a country edge—in which piano, organ, and lightly strummed guitars swell and ebb, in order to support the gloriously declamatory outpouring of words.
