An iconoclast, pacifist and indomitable champion of the marginalised, Fabrizio De André was so beloved in his native Italy that streets, parks and schools have since been named after him. Across his '60s, '70s and '80s output, his beautifully wrought poetry revived Italian dialects in pop and Mediterranean folk music, generating some of the biggest hits in Italian chanson. Tales of the underdog spirit allied to exemplary songwriting, heartfelt delivery, folk finger-picking and spellbinding storytelling all helped to found this modern legend of Italian music.
