There's no shortage of youthful exuberance and rough-edged sincerity in Car Seat Headrest's deep catalogue of indie rock nuggets. Before signing with Matador Records in 2015, Will Toledo self-released nearly a dozen albums, many shrouded in deliberately lo-fi production. These tracks reveal intricately complex guitar pop that touches on the minimalist rock of The Strokes and the fuzzy psychedelia of Animal Collective. Toledo has polished that aesthetic ever so slightly over time, but his raw candour remains unchanged as he bares his twentysomething fears, anxieties and existential crises.
