Emerging in the early '90s from the turbulence of South Africa's political landscape, Brothers of Peace brought together the iconic team of Bruce “Dope” Sebitlo and Oscar “Oskido” Bonginkosi Mdlongwa. The duo merged hardcore rap with the cool of kwaito, bringing with it a message of social activism and youthful punk rebellion. While their lyrics pulled few punches, they underscored them with infectious beats, dense funk grooves, traditional rhythms and hints of house—not only capturing the dance floor, but the heart of South Africa's post-Apartheid youth.
