Since bursting onto the scene for his sweeping, romantic soundtrack to Roja in 1992, A.R. Rahman has dominated the Indian film music industry. Some of the Chennai native’s most memorable works—and awards—have come from his Tamil film soundtracks such as Minsara Kanavu and Maryan, while perhaps the biggest highlight of his Tamil career was Bombay and its unforgettable single “Kannaalaney”, which sold 12 million copies worldwide.
