About Magellan

Magellan were a progressive rock/metal duo from Vacaville, California. Founded by multi-instrumentalist/singing brothers Trent and Wayne Gardner, their sound drew heavily on the early prog influences of Yes, Genesis, and Kansas. Their debut, Hour of Restoration, was released in 1991, and 1993's Impending Ascension drew global critical notice. 1997's Test of Wills engaged directly with prog metal, drawing comparisons to Dream Theater and Symphony X, and 2002's Hundred Year Flood featured guest spots from members of Jethro Tull and King Crimson. 2003's Impossible Figures fully integrated electronics into a progressive rock aesthetic and 2005's Symphony for a Misanthrope took a different direction, juxtaposing prog, metal, and classical with cinematic orchestration. Throughout their career, Magellan endured promotion and distribution difficulties, ultimately frustrating their ambitions. After Wayne's death in 2014, Trent Gardner continued to record under the moniker until his own death in 2016.
