With a proclivity for heartfelt ballads and a deeply personal writing approach, Langa Mavuso has become one South Africa’s most prolific R&B and urban soul voices. Born Nkosinathi Nhlakanipho Mavuso in Diepkloof, Johannesburg, in 1994, the singer/songwriter studied music at the National School of the Arts and went on to major in jazz performance at the University of Cape Town. Since breaking out in 2016 with his EP Liminal Sketches and its captivating hit single “Sunday Blues”, Mavuso has continued to share his emotive, love-filled musings with each release since. On his 2020 debut album, LANGA, Mavuso chronicles an emotional journey of healing from a heartbreak. Mavuso’s vocal range spans from a robust baritone to an elegant falsetto, and his vivid, honest songs explore the different phases of love atop a bed of distinctly modern South African R&B sounds.
