Over his decades-long career, Black Coffee—the moniker of South African DJ Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo—has commanded international commercial success and underground respect in equal measure. Released as a surprise accompaniment to his massive concert in Johannesburg of the same name, this EP features collaborations with a medley of vocal talents both local and global. Samthing Soweto's hushed chanting voice slips with natural grace into "Ndod'emnyama", while Mondli Ngcobo's strong vocals bolster the subdued "Ilala", which resplendent with tinkling piano keys and gentle reverb.
