Ebusuku

Ebusuku

Johannesburg singer-songwriter Th&o (aka Thando Kunene) has positioned himself in a musical corner all his own with his self-produced debut album. It showcases his signature blended sound—for which he coined the name Afrotronic—where influences like Fela Kuti, Daft Punk and Jamiroquai are palpable. Titled Ebusuku—Zulu for “At Night”—because he worked on it between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m., the album’s narrative begins with “Night Time” and a simple question: “The night time comes for me, where is the off switch?” It concludes with a redemptive turn in “The Morning” as he promises not to forget everything that he experienced in the shadows.
