Not content to simply blur the lines between hip-hop and amapiano, Sizwe Alakine—formerly known as Reason—seeks to obliterate them altogether with the first full-length album of his second act, Alakine World, creating a new sound he’s dubbed “rapiano”. In his universe, poetry and the sounds of the street come together in equal measure to tell moving stories, that, well, get you moving, as is the case on the heartbreaking-yet-healing “After Tears”, or the who’s-playing-who vibe of “Mang Kapa Mang”. A constellation of cross-genre stars join Alakine for the journey, including Gemini Major and S’tukzin (“Konko”), Felo Le Tee and Lady Du (“Abantu”), and DayJoy Skillzz, Deepeer Phil and ‘piano heavyweight, Kabza De Small (“Amaginsa”).
