One of the most celebrated singers of Thailand's most popular musical style, luk thung, Tai Orathai sings of unrequited love, nostalgia for home and the small tragedies of everyday life in melancholy soprano tones reflecting luk thung's rural origins. Her 2002 debut, Duak Yah Nai Pah Poon, introduced audiences to Orathai's memorable blend of languages (Isaan and Lao) and showcased electrified versions of the phin lute and vertical flute, along with occasional harmonica and slide guitar.
