With a moniker adapted from Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong, it's no surprise that Suchmos rattle and roll with the same upbeat swing as the jazz legend. However, the Kanagawa band stretch beyond jazz's outer limits, crafting deftly funky songs with classic R&B, funk rock and hip-hop textures. Suchmos's 2017 album, The Kids, is filled with buttoned-up future funk like "Pinkvibes" and the smooth-rocking daydream "Stay Tune", which unfurls like Rick James getting lost in Shibuya.
