Franz Schubert Essentials

Another of classical music's greats who died young, Schubert—who passed aged 31—saw himself as Beethoven's successor, leaving eight symphonies, string quartets, piano sonatas, choral works and countless songs. His song cycles Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise remain some of the greatest ever composed. His final year, 1828, haunted by death, saw him write some of his greatest music, including his sublime String Quintet and B flat Piano Sonata. Melody flowed out of him like the river that flows through Die schöne Müllerin. Float along with this selection of his great works.
