Tizzo

Unlike many rappers who succeed through the help of major labels, Tizzo did it on his own. His 2018 hit single “On Fouette” (“We Whip”), a tribute to his late brother, infiltrated Quebec’s lexicon as its title became an ubiquitous catchphrase, and the song’s success placed Tizzo on the throne of the province’s competitive trap scene. Born in the Montreal neighbourhood of Ahuntsic, the artist born Teddy Laguerre moved to Laval at 16, where he met like-minded rappers like Shreez, with whom he collaborated extensively on early releases such as 2019’s Fouette Saint-Patrick and Canicule, Vol. 1. Tizzo’s energetic raps resonate even with fans who don’t have a firm grasp of French, and the MC is always expanding his reach by collaborating with artists from outside his immediate circle for a cross-pollination of fanbases.
