Garganta Profunda

About Garganta Profunda

With more than 1000 performances and seven recorded LPs and CDs (one of which has being awarded with the Prêmio Sharp 99), the Garganta Profunda is one of the best vocal/instrumental groups in Brazil, translating popular repertory into multi-part vocal performance with elaborated and modern arrangements. Beginning as a 23-member group, the Garganta is formed by only five members. The shows staged by the Garganta blend scenic performances with musical execution: Vida Paixão e Banana: Garganta Canta a Tropicália, Chega de Saudade: Garganta Canta a Bossa Nova, Outros Carnavais: História do Carnaval Carioca, Memórias: Garganta Canta Beatles, Um Milhão de Melodias: A Era do Rádio, Yes, Nós Temos Braguinha: Garganta A Cappella, Forever Jobim: Homenagem a Tom Jobim, and Deep Rio. Two of them, Garganta Canta a Bossa Nova and Memórias, were presented in tours throughout Brazil. The group also performed with other renowned artists like Paulo Autran and Tônia Carreiro in Mundo, Vasto Mundo, Emilinha Borba in O Carnaval de Braguinha: 90 anos, and José Celso Martinez Correa, Pedro Paulo Rangel, Ítala Nandi, and Othon Bastos in the commemoration of the 30 years of the Tropicália movement at the CCBB-Rio. "A Permuta Dos Santos" (Chico Buarque/Edu Lobo) was presented by the Garganta Profunda and the group also participated in several anthologies prepared by Lumiar, like Dorival Caymmi (1994), Edu Lobo (1994), Ary Barroso (1995), Tom Jobim (1996), Djavan (1997), and Chico Buarque (1999). The group also produced a didactic course modeling its performance, presented in Cuiabá MS, Ouro Preto MG, Itajaí RJ, Fortaleza CE, and Cordoba (Argentina). In 1997, they toured Argentina, Mendoza, and Córdoba. In 1998, they released their sixth CD in Barcelona, Spain, and in three Italian festivals. The CD Deep Rio was awarded with the Prêmio Sharp 99 as Best Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) Group. ~ Alvaro Neder
