About Street Money Boochie

Atlanta rapper Street Money Boochie came up collaborating with his cousin Bankroll Fresh, making his debut with a feature on Bankroll's 2015 single "Walked In." Part of the Street Money clique, Boochie released several mixtapes between 2015 and 2018 and found an audience for his music through offering it for free on multiple online platforms. Standout singles like "Good" and "Selfish" were among a few of the rapper's prolifically released songs that connected his mysterious and unflappable sound with thousands of listeners. Street Money Boochie grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, getting into rap early in life as a huge fan of 2Pac. His cousin Bankroll Fresh (born Trentavious Zamon White, Sr.) was around the same age as Boochie and the two pursued music in Atlanta's vibrant rap scene. Bankroll's music made an impression a little sooner than his cousin's, but the two collaborated often, dropping verses on each other's songs frequently. Boochie's first mixtape, Bless da Streetz, was released in 2015 and was a regional hit, introducing thousands to the rappers' hook-heavy style. Guest spots from Skooly, Strap da Fool, Yayo, and others gave the sometimes dark mixtape a more communal and lighthearted feel. Boochie posted new mixtapes online frequently, including Flava God in late 2015 and 2016's Where I Came From. In March of 2016, Bankroll Fresh and childhood friend No Plug got into an argument in a studio that ended in gunfire with Bankroll being shot and killed. This loss was tremendous for Boochie, who pulled no punches speaking out against No Plug in interviews and kept his cousin's name alive in the form of posthumous mixtape appearances. He continued to release music prolifically, offering up Flava God 2 and Yfn Kay collaboration YFNSM in 2017, and Synpa collaboration A Nightmare on 88 Street the next year. In 2018 he also released the dark and moody collection StreetMoneyBoochie. ~ Fred Thomas
