In addition to his reputation as a song stylist, Camille Bazbaz has a producer's ear for curating retro sounds—twinkling Fender Rhodes, sparse guitar, mournful accordion—and using them to explore musical forms, most notably reggae (“Sur le bout de la langue”). He's also a dab hand at breezy Gallic pop (“L'aimant”), ‘50s rock ‘n' roll (“Gentleman cambrioleur”) and brooding tangos (“La plage”), so while his playful lyrics often provoke and tease, and his voice cajoles and purrs, his musical ideas remain poised and immaculate, each instrument audibly earning its keep or dropping out altogether.
