Voy En Camino

Voy En Camino

While regional Mexican music so brilliantly captures the stories and experiences of generations on both sides of the border, so rarely does it leave much room for female voices. Offering a refreshing, though no less stark, perspective on the street-level realities depicted in the contemporary corridos scene, Voy En Camino makes a compelling case for Ivonne Galaz to shatter that proverbial glass ceiling. Having risen swiftly in the Rancho Humilde ranks via her team-ups with Natanael Cano, she proves a formidable soloist in her own right across these nine robust tracks. She takes to corridos verdes with 420-friendly ease on “Cuidado Por Donde Pisas” while relatably succumbing to heartbreak on the earnest “Por Ti”. The title track exudes classic narratives of loyalty and perseverance in the face of snakes, saboteurs and traitors. Abraham Vazquez guests on the defiantly defensive duet “Tú Qué Me Juzgas”, but otherwise this is entirely Galaz’s showcase, one undeniably worthy of repeat listening.
