Watchhouse: Influences

Watchhouse: Influences

To celebrate their debut at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz call out some of the songs that helped get them there: Gillian Welch's "Caleb Meyer" (“There are an alarming number of old-time ballads in which women get murdered. Gillian is the master of that old-time simplicity in her songs, but with a lot of lyrical depth. I love that this song flips that narrative”); Emmylou Harris' "Easy from Now On" (“This is a tune we've covered very rarely since the very beginning. It's such a smart and perfect country song, and I love knowing that Susanna Clark and Carlene Carter wrote it”); Hazel & Alice's "Hello Stranger" (“Hazel and Alice are such inspirations, especially for those of us who love old-time and bluegrass and want to hear the less-heard voices of all the women pickers and singers. This one is an earworm, and probably had something to do with naming our tune 'Hey Stranger'”).
