Cri-Cri el Grillito Cantor (the singing cricket) was the sound of childhood in Mexico for much of the 20th century. Veracruz native Francisco Gabilondo Soler began singing on the radio in 1934; his penchant for comic songs quickly led him to children’s music. His gentle, curious tunes have remained a nursery staple in much of the Spanish-speaking world and beyond, thanks in part to wonderful covers by international artists.
