Triumph: Next Steps
Apple Music

Triumph's signature sound seamlessly fused hard-rock muscle with prog-inspired melody, but it took them a few years to strike that perfect balance. From their 1976 debut, “24 Hours a Day” features a pastoral intro from Rik Emmett that crashes into Gil Moore's fist-pumping chorus; on 1979's “American Girls,” they were still wielding a heavy blues swing. But by 1982's “All the Way,” their rugged proto-metal was smoothed out by sky-high harmonies.
