Today’s Country

This playlist tracks what’s happening from the heart of the country scene to its outer edges. Find fan favorites you already love next to breakout stars and emerging voices. Topping the list this week is Jordan Davis with “In Case You Missed It,” a just-released song from the “I Ain’t Sayin’” hitmaker. “In Case You Missed It” uses a common expression to dig into romantic regret, as Davis sings of a lost love he hopes might be “second guessing” their split and “missing home.” In typical Davis fashion, the track is melodic and soulful, with richly layered guitar from bluegrass flat-picking extraordinaire Bryan Sutton and sought-after session player Derek Wells. Lyrically, Davis eschews cliché in favor of detail, using images of a “boarded up BP” and a repaired parish bridge to illustrate how much time has passed since he and his lover parted ways. “In Case You Missed It” follows Davis’ October release “Know You Like That” and is slated to appear on an as-yet-unannounced follow-up to his 2023 album, Bluebird Days.
