The Saints Essentials

The Saints Essentials

Formed in 1974, Brisbane, Australia's The Saints evolved in isolation from the nascent proto-punk scenes in the UK and the US, mixing raucous R&B with Stooges-like rock to shape the sound of punk and alternative to come. They soon developed a broader sound on albums such as 1977's (I'm) Stranded, 1978’s Eternally Yours, and 1986's All Fools Day—records that had an influence on everyone from Aussie artists Nick Cave and INXS to The Jesus and Mary Chain, Guns N' Roses, and Bruce Springsteen. Lead singer Chris Bailey, the band’s sole constant member after five decades, died in April 2022 at the age of 65.
