The Roots of Riot Grrrl

The Riot Grrrl movement kicked off in the early '90s, but it didn't come from nowhere: Since the ‘70s, women had become more prominent in rock, with singers like The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde and Heart's Wilson sisters showing the world that a woman needn't solely be confined to the singer/songwriter movement. Here are some of the rockin' women who paved the way for the ladies of punk to come.
