Starting as a collaboration between White Stripes riffmaster Jack White and power-pop underdog Brendan Benson, The Raconteurs would—with the addition of The Greenhornes’ Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler—become the flagship supergroup of the 21st-century garage-rock wave. On their two late-’00s LPs, White and Benson eagerly played against type, with the former slipping on a skinny tie for “Steady as She Goes” and Benson steering the sleaze-rock thrust of “Consolers of the Lonely.” After an 11-year break, The Raconteurs reasserted their unique alchemy with the cowbelled boogie and psych-pop whimsy of 2019 single “Sunday Driver.”
