The Prodigy Essentials

The Prodigy are electronic punks, and their untamed fusion of rock, rave, and rap is both thrillingly antisocial and downright snotty. This attitude started in the illicit glee of their early breakbeat techno creations, such as “Out of Space,” and intensified as Liam Howlett incorporated other sounds: chugging metal guitars in “Breathe”; colossal and dirty hip-hop beats in “Poison”; and industrial screeches across everything else. The late prankster king Keith Flint completed the unsettling effect, with a sneering lead vocal on “Firestarter” that gave the band its trademark sound.
