Johann Sebastian Bach may be one of the best-known and most beloved composers of all time, but what about the rest of his enormous family? J.S. Bach fathered 20 children, four of whom—Carl Philipp Emanuel, Wilhelm Friedemann, Johann Christian, and Johann Christoph—followed in their father’s musical footsteps, not to mention their children in turn. Many of these descendants found success as notable composers and musicians, even as they remained somewhat in the shadow of the family patriarch.
