Editors’ Notes Of all the bands that comprised British punk's first wave, The Damned evolved in the most unpredictable ways. While their ‘77 debut saw them mainlining the Stooges' raw power (check the corrosive cover of “1970,” a.k.a. “I Feel Alright”), within five years they were reveling in brassy, Motown-inspired romps like “Stranger on the Town.” And then there's “The Shadow of Love,” an unholy union of gothic dream pop and Tex-Mex rhythms.
