When Devon Thagard and Troy McDonald—two English as a second language teachers in Japan—wanted to use music to help their students learn, they created their own, simplified arrangements of classic children’s tracks, as well as original compositions, for ease in their educational venture. Super Simple Songs, founded in 2006, eventually turned into a juggernaut YouTube channel, with plenty of tunes—and spinoff characters like Noodle & Pals and Finny The Shark—to aid in instruction that leans into a child’s imagination. Whether paying a visit to “Old MacDonald” and his farm, warning the “Five Little Monkeys” to stop jumping on the bed, playing a little “Pat-A-Cake,” or clapping along to “If You’re Happy and You Know It,” these timeless lullabies and nursery staples are perfect for growing minds.
