Although Sub Pop was founded in the early '80s as a zine and a cassette-only label, it wasn't until the epochal Sub Pop 100 compilation came out in 1986 that people outside Seattle took notice. Classic sides by Green River, Mudhoney, and a young band from Aberdeen called Nirvana made them one of the biggest labels of the American underground just before everything exploded.
