Stick Figure Essentials

Hailing from California, Stick Figure have sent forth some of the headiest grooves to come out of ‘00s American reggae. Onstage, the group's lineup includes four or five musicians, but in the studio, it's all Scott Woodruff, a singer/songwriter/producer with a love for dubby reverb. On "Let the Music Play," he fleshes out a crisp drum beat with steamy sax while his looping lyrics pay tribute to reggae itself—he clearly knows the genre well. "Ring the Alarm" smooths out a dancehall classic, the singer using his easy croon to make it sound new, while the foggy "Smokin' Love" is buoyed by a guest verse from dancehall favorite Collie Buddz.
