Nothing is ever quite as it seems in the music of Steven Wilson. Picking up where the giants of progressive music left off, this sonic traveller performs songs with sudden mood swings, symphonic melodic structures, and dark chemistry. There are tense standoffs between hellish armies of scabrous guitars ("Salvaging") and the heavenly peace of soothing violins. Movements build from the gentlest guitar figures ("Drive Home") into rolling monoliths ("Harmony Korine") in which languid chords give way to extended guitar freak-outs and banks of plangent Mellotron.
