Though his bouncy, minimalist sound had influences and precedents in previous West Coast rap movements like hyphy and jerk, Dijon McFarlane's ratchet production style became a trend unto itself in the 2010s. Some of his California contemporaries like P-LO and Nic Nac landed on similarly springy beats organically, while others set out more deliberately to replicate the hit DJ Mustard formula.
