Rising from NYC's art-noise scene, Sonic Youth's early records explored abrasive feedback and distortion. And then they started to rock. Starting with 1985's Bad Moon Rising, the band embraced their love of both the experimental underground and classic rock from Neil Young to the Carpenters. By the time of 1988's explosive Daydream Nation, the indie scene was too small for them.
