Smokey Robinson: The '70s

After The Miracles' breakup in 1972, Smokey took a brief detour into the business side of Motown, but he couldn't stay away from the recording booth for long. Coining the phrase "quiet storm" with his 1975 album of the same name, Robinson pioneered the slower, smoother side of soul. His seductive sound proved massively influential for everything from '80s smooth jazz to today's neo-soul stars.
