Sly & the Family Stone: The '60s
Apple Music
Sly Stone got his start as a radio DJ in the early '60s, spinning gritty soul songs right after wild garage rock singles. Forming Sly and The Family Stone in '67, he kept that adventurous spirit alive, and changed music permanently with his band's mix of wild psychedelic pop and classic soul. These songs helped to invent funk with their down-and-dirty grooves. They also rock as hard as any British Invasion band.
