Simple Plan Essentials

The mid-’90s pop-punk revolution built a bridge from Warped Tour to the Top 40, and few acts were as eager to cross over to the other side as Simple Plan. On their 2002 breakthrough, “I’m Just a Kid,” the Montreal band came off like a PG-rated blink-182, providing a congenial antidote to typical teen-angst brattiness. They continued to outgrow their punk roots on the Oasis-like anthem “Welcome to My Life” and the cruising rocker “Jet Lag” (a duet with Québécois singer Marie-Mai). And with 2015’s “I Don’t Wanna Go to Bed,” Simple Plan reaffirmed that their pop ambitions have no limit by roping in rapper Nelly for a brassy funk workout.
