Editors’ Notes Shugo Tokumaru keeps a dream diary to supply all of his lyrics, which he then wraps into intricate and dizzying pop songs. The Tokyo native uses myriad instruments in this process: electric guitar and drums meet toy pianos and xylophones. Taking a cue from Brian Wilson, Tokumaru also peppers his songs with non-musical instruments, from alarm clocks to mooing cows. The mash-up of sounds borders on the surreal, but his craftsman-like approach ensures that everything falls into place as disconcerting, dreamlike atmospheres give way to sing-along pop hooks.
