Sam Cooke Essentials

Sam Cooke Essentials

Beginning his career as the lead singer of the gospel group The Soul Stirrers at the age of 19, Sam Cooke captivated listeners instantly with his rich voice and immense charisma. He then launched a secular career, exploring a new sound with his gospel background that would soon be referred to as soul. Though his evocative timbre often conveyed palpable pain and heartbreak, Cooke's voice could also be a channel for pure joy. Though his life and career ended in 1964 with his tragic death at the age of 33, his music has proven utterly timeless.
