Roky Erickson: Deep Cuts

Roky Erickson made key contributions to lo-fi as well as psychedelia and garage punk. As early as “We Sell Soul,” recorded with Spades in 1966, he was drowning primitive rock in cavernous murk. He also went on to produce “The Times I've Had,” sad, rickety alt-folk that was committed to tape in a hotel room, and the trance-inducing “Unforced Peace,” a cryptic ballad with its edges eaten away by grainy distortion.
