Riccardo Chailly Essentials

After heading the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the great Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, Chailly moved to Leipzig in 2005, ushering in an amazing transformation to put it back on the map as one of the world's great ensembles (one of his predecessors was Mendelssohn). His recordings of the symphonies of Beethoven and Brahms, in particular, combine the Leipzig sound with an altogether more radical approach—and they've won plaudits all over the musical world. With La Scala his next job, Chailly's superb musicianship can once again be heard in opera.
