Quincy Jones: Deep Cuts

Quincy Jones: Deep Cuts

Quincy Jones was never shy about working global sounds into his pop jazz. “On the Street Where You Live” has horns dancing atop bossa-nova percussion and “Jive Samba” utilizes carnivalesque rhythms, both featuring Brazilian-inspired arrangements for a big band. He also dipped into Japanese music with “Blues for Trumpet & Koto,” a quirky soundtrack piece built from his cackling horn and Kazuko Inano’s lyrical plucking.
