Pharoah Sanders: Next Steps

Pharoah Sanders: Next Steps

Pharoah Sanders has always been an agile, forceful jazz saxophonist, but thanks to his avant-garde approach he's also been a bandleader, percussionist, and even singer. On the 1967 album Tauhid, a young-but-weathered Sanders intones a far-out lead vocal on "Japan," while the complex, polyrhythmic percussion arrangements on 1970's Thembi have him playing bells, maracas, and more.
