Before Pitbull became a crossover star, Mellow Man Ace and Kid Frost introduced the world to the barrios of Los Angeles, with its local customs, gang cultures, and Chicano pride. Cypress Hill even fashioned an original rhyme cadence. While NWA and Public Enemy were bringing a political and cultural voice to black youths in the inner city, these songs gave voice to a nation of Spanish-speaking youths.
