Editors’ Notes Orchestra Baobab was Senegal's greatest dance band during the ‘70s. Though their live repertoire (played at the prestigious club that gave them their name) covered a wide range of styles, their albums settled on a distinctive sound highlighted by shared vocals and Barthélémy Attisso's searing guitar. The band played with funky grit and majestic grace on numerous releases. Their popularity waned in the early ‘80s as mbalax bands rose to challenge them, but they reunited in the ‘00s for a series of records that equaled their early output and demonstrated the reunited band's refinement and power.
