Music That Soothes Me: Perrie

Apple Music

“I listen to music while I’m getting ready to help me feel relaxed while starting the day and also to help me wind down before bed after a long day,” Perrie Edwards tells Apple Music. “SZA’s whole discography soothes me and calms me when I’m anxious, but I normally listen to old-school music like ’80s pop-rock ballads and all the divas. Music is like therapy. Writing and performing my own music has helped me through some stressful times.” With tracks that range from Céline Dion’s belt-it-out-and-feel-better “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” to Go West’s open-top ’80s moment “The King of Wishful Thinking,” Perrie’s selections are definitely therapeutic. So what’s her top tip for relieving stress? “I make sure I’m well rested, getting enough sleep and taking enough time away from screens,” she says. “I always try and look at the sky in the morning before I look at a screen.” Listen to Perrie’s calming playlist and read on to find out about some of her soothing choices. SZA, “Nobody Gets Me” “The lyrics and melody are beautiful—I just love it!” Bon Jovi, “Always” “My dad used to sing this one in the clubs, and it’s a lovely song to listen to.” Janet Jackson, “Together Again” “This transports me back to my childhood.” Justin Bieber, “Anyone” “I listen to it a lot with Alex [Oxlade-Chamberlain, Perrie’s partner]. It came out the year Axel [their son] was born and it takes us back to a happy place.”
