Motown Goes Disco
Apple Music
Motown billed itself as “The Sound of Young America” in the ‘60s. It grew up along with its audience in the ‘70s, and when disco crossed over from nightclubs into the mainstream, Motown was ready with hits that were innovative rather than opportunistic. By 1974, Motown greats from the Jackson 5 to Diana Ross had charted major disco successes in their own style and on their own terms.
