Erik “Ripley” Johnson hails from heavy-rocking neo-psych soldiers Wooden Shjips, but with fellow freak-flag waver Sanae Yamada, he forged a heady, hypnotic sound that drives ethereal textures on a collision course with incantatory, minimalist grooves.
