Editors’ Notes Japanese idol pop was built on uptempo beats and cheery synthesizer, and five-piece Momoiro Clover Z certainly embrace these mainstays. But it's the way they gleefully push the sonic boundaries of the genre that has made them the top alternative idols in Japan. Collaborating with the likes of Kiss and former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman, the colorful outfit incorporates chugging heavy metal guitars and bass-warping EDM freakouts, even welcoming sudden stylistic shifts mid-song. This is a band that prides itself on upsetting the status quo.
